Chapter Nine: Siege of Dun Taruo

After Rie pledged loyalty to Northhymbre, Northhymbre pointed its sword to the Picts at the North. Soon, Northhymbre went to  war with Kingdom of Alban. Major Alban cities like Scuin and Edinburg fell to the viking army quickly. Rie was rewarded of Scuin for her efforts in war.  As result, the Kingdom of Alban is greatly weakened with less income and manpower. In addition, the vikings weren’t merciful people, they continue sieging on the remaining Alban forts.

Northhymbre assigned Rie to take down Dun Taruo for this war. Rie tried her best of recruiting a warband of 250+ people and marched to Dun Taruo. Dun Taruo is the Alban forts with the best natural barriers.  It has multiple hills surrounding the tall fort itself. With the Pictish crossbowmen, it is very hard to take this fort down by force. However, even the strongest men need to feed themselves.  Of course, Rie brought a lot of food and money because supplies are also important for Rie’s warband.  They have to out-starve the defenders.  Thus, Rie’s warband burned and cut Dun Taruo’s food supplies and wait for them to surrender.

This siege lasted a few weeks and ended by the desperated, hungry defenders charged outside. After the siege, Rie is being sent to Asturias to deal with some affairs. Before sailing, she met two people who will be helpful in the journey…
